Guide on Garden Herb Markers
You have now hopefully grown your own herb garden. You are probably so excited to put your home grown herbs alongside with your mouth watering meals. Now that you have picked the herbs you want to use, but uh-oh, you picked oregano instead of basil.
But not to worry help is here! After planting your own herbs you can place garden herb markers so that you can distinguish from one herb to another. With these markers, there is no guessing involved. These garden herb markers can be purchased in the market or on the internet. But being practical, you can make your own garden herb marker. Here are a few tips for getting started in garden marker making.
Flat-rock Markers
Rocks are generally very abundant in our garden and there’s no doubt about that. Get some flat rocks, paint them with acrylic paint and mark them up with a permanent marker, this is a very simple beginner’s technique to start off with.
Aluminum Stakes or Window blinds
If you can recycle your old window blinds, just mark them up with permanent markers, if you want to color them, decorate them and voila you have your own garden herb markers. These markers last long because aluminum doesn’t rust easily and has a long life.
Clay Garden markers
If you’re a pot maker then you could use your skills in making clay markers. Just don’t use your clay garden herb markers during winter. Because when they freeze, you’ll end up to a damaged marker due to the clay cracking.
Wooden stakes
This is the most common material used for garden herb markers. It is very practical to use and easy to locate for e.g. you can find and use ice cream sticks for marking the herbs because they are very cheap and can be bought at your neighborhood store.
Below are the instructions to make your wooden herb garden marker.
Materials Needed For Your Wooden Stake Marker:
- ice cream sticks, coffee stirrer, or craft stick
- permanent markers
- any coloring materials, can be crayons or paints
- First, purchase a set of ice cream sticks (can also be coffee stirrers or craft sticks).
- Second, wash the sticks.
- Color them with standard crayons or paints to make them water proof. Dry them up under the heat of the sun. You can also make them color coding, according to your herbs so that you could easily see the herbs you want to. (optional, only if you want to)
- Write neatly the name of the herb you are going to mark at. Decorate if desired.
- Put them on your home herb garden
Now that you have your garden herb markers completed, next time you’ll be sure that the herbs you picked are the herbs that you really wanted. Hopefully now you can pick your herbs without the doubt and worry of choosing the wrong ones and enjoy the world of gardening.
